Customers are mixed about the quality of the hole punch. Some mention it's excellent for cutting, and is great for model making. However, others say that it doesn't cut, it'll only cut half way through, and the cuts are never straight.

I also noticed that the tool will not cut perfectly straight vertically as the blade can bend slightly when cutting - watch out for that.. However, this issue is fairly minor given the fact that in most cases you'll be caulking and painting the molding joints after installing it.
Overall this is a very handy and useful tool and a must-have if you're installing lots of standard white primed builder's grade shoe molding.
And it does save time. BUT only if you are using it with woods that work with it.
I gave it a test when I first got it, and I was really disappointed. Results below. I still had my big job ahead of me, so I kept it and hoped I'd grow more fond of it. I'd heard so many good things, how could it not be good?
Balsa = mashed, not cut. Horrible.
Bass = cut, but some tearing at the edge of the cut and sometimes you have to snap it off. Not clean, not professional.
Anything harder = only if it's really thin. But not *too* thin, because then it basically ignores the piece and does nothing. And definitely not too wide, because over about 1/2 an inch and it just can't keep up the pressure over the width of the cut. You've got to want to cut a lot of semi-hard, 1/8" square wood with this thing for it to be a good purchase.
In addition, it slips out of square (90°) really easily, so you have to give it a wiggle frequently to make sure it hasn't slipped out a bit. Usually you realize you need to do this only after having made a few wonky cuts. :(
Now I was using good old popsicle sticks as panelling over a large surface. They're hard enough, and thin enough (just over 1/16" thick by just about 1/2" wide), that the cuts were usually good. It did its job that one time. But bass and balsa are a miniaturist's bread and butter, so to speak, and to discover how severely limited this is... and I have tried it quite a few more times after that initial test, thinking "maybe it's me"... well, I can't recommend it to anyone else.
I've gotten my use out of it and I'd feel guilty if I returned it now. Maybe they wouldn't take it back after a month anyhow.
But honestly, I thought I had a tool for life when I bought it, not a one-job wonder. So I do wish I could return it.
