Leanne Eisen Play

Leanne Eisen Plays with Miniatures in her Photo Series: Play

Leanne Eisen is a photo based artist from Toronto, Canada. In her photo series “Play” she depicts miniature scenes of the seedier side of things.

Before you make a judgement, read the description of the Play series from her site:

The games we play as children are rehearsals for the roles we play in life. Traditional toys for girls nurture homemaker stereotypes, simulating traditional domestic roles through play. In these photographs, I am exploring the possibility of the same staging taking place with the prolific, but publicly hidden occupation of prostitution. By constructing these scenes in miniature, I project representations of the sex industry onto the medium of the conventional dollhouse. As polar opposites, the homemaker and the sex worker are highly constructed and restrictive roles, the most deeply-rooted myths of the feminine. Pieced together from many sources of representation these constructed spaces can be peered-into and examined.

Emphasis, mine.

I think it is a very poignant collection of photos. Do check out the photo series for more images. She also has a blog.

I actually really liked that. The rooms were really well done! No judging here. 🙂

I agree, love her photography and how she set up the shots. Wish she’d do more of the photography with minis.

I personally find this sort of well-executed art to be thoughtful and intriguing. I think these subject matters should make us uncomfortable, though not judgmental. For some women, this is the reality of life and it’s so hard to even comprehend how they deal and exist. Thanks for sharing!

I agree. I also really like the fact that this topic is explored, despite it being an uncomfortable topic.
