Nyne House Front Door Placement

This is just a quick post..

Remember the post where I was mulling over where to put the main entrance for the Nyne? Well, its been decided after the Reac chairs came in the mail! I set up where I planned to place the chairs and it does indeed allow ample space for the main entrance to be on the *right* of the fireplace (which is the lower left hand corner in the picture above). In fact, its now a little bit too roomy on that side, so I need to figure out how to flesh it out there lol.

On a side note, after laying out the furniture, the floor color is starting to grow on me. I would still like to have it a bit darker than it is now, but the red tint works rather nicely, I think.

I’ll give it a good sanding and another coat or two of the stain and we’ll see.

    I LOVE those chairs. I want some. And they really do look great. Haha, did you use your pilfered tiles to make a rug? 😉

      Yes I love the chairs too! *DROOL* It just took freaking forever to get here from Japan! And yes, the tiles are the stand in run.. I need to make something nice for the house soon!

    Love the floor. And the house design too. I am curious about the “foamular” that you are using. Can it be painted? Is it more sturdy than the foam core from graphic arts store. I can’t wait to see the next phase of the construction.

      Thanks Barbara. IMO, Foamular is much more sturdy than foamcore because it is more densely packed, as it is a construction material. Foamcore may seem sturdier, but if you were to apply cardboard paper to the surfaces of the foamular (similar to how foamcore is), foamular will feel the same way too. In general, I don’t recommend using naked foamcore by itself, as it should be protected with paper and such. Speaking of which, some problems in using foamular is that the surface can be easily dinged without a protective layer of paint or paper covering it (it is foam after all!), and that the thinnest size is at 1/2″ which may be too thick for some miniaturists (though it is a perfect material for outer walls). I think there are companies out there that make rigid foam sheets similar to foamular that is sized up to 1/4″ but I’m not sure how easily obtainable they are (I haven’t seen any in my local hardware store, personally). Other than that, it is sturdy, lightweight, easy to manipulate, and CHEAP! And yes, Foamular can be painted (the pictures shown are the foamular walls spray painted white).

    Ann, Wow. That is great. I have built a house of foam core and have to use paper for all the walls. I will look into foamular definitely. Thanks for the great info and also the posts on building the wooden Coventry Cottage kit. I am going to built a Greenleaf Buttercup and your experiences will be very helpful. Barb

      No problem Barb! And I got the idea to build a foam house from you actually! I was too cheap to shell out the big bucks for so much foamcore (especially for my build), looked for an alternative material and found that foamular is a wonderful, affordable alternative. Keep in mind that “foamular” is just a brand and that there are other brands of rigid foam insulation that can be used. I just went with Foamular because thats all that was carried at my local home depot in the proper size. If you do go with another brand, be sure to ask a worker if it is safe for model/display building. I also find that miniature railroad builder sites and forums are great tools to learn about using the different kinds of foams as many of them use it for building their landscapes. Can’t wait to see what you do with the Buttercup, it is an adorable house!

      Thanks Cody! My problem is getting easily distracted.. now that I’m working on the Shawn.House, the Nyne has been pushed to the wayside a bit. I do hope to finish it sometime next year though! lol 😉
